2017.2.2 - 2017.4.23 | 2F, Yu-Hsiu Museum of Art

Introduction

For the first exhibition after the Chinese New Year holiday in 2017, Yu-Hsiu Museum of Art has invited four promising contemporary artists of realist art from different fields to hold four respective exhibitions. The attempt corresponds to one of the museum's long-term objectives, which is to "strive for increasing the visibility of Taiwanese contemporary realist art." We also hope that the artistic warmth of the works would capture the attention of international and domestic art lovers and lead our audience to care about the contemporary environment and society.

The affinity between the museum and wood sculptor, Huang Pin-Tong, began with the public artwork, Bashfully Waiting, on the meadow outside the museum. The artist's work has not only accompanied our audience throughout the past year, it has also witnessed the opening of the museum. Therefore, this solo exhibition has specially included this unique piece as well as other works that the artist has created out of different life encounters because of "love." The artist bases the exhibition on the theme of "meet," using wood sculptures to express a wide spectrum of emotions and feelings. The artworks reflect the artist's journey of life as well as how she cares for her friends, family, and life partner around her. They substantiate the positive truth that "one can only love others when one is able to love oneself," which allows us to have a fresh start every single day.

Artists' Profile

Huang Pin-Tong

Huang likes to observe and imagine, and believes that everything in naturehas its own personality and feelings. Through personifying natural life and projecting her own experience, her work voices the stories of life with different scenarios. Huang hopes to create a feeling of déjà vu for her audience, or even to induce their inner resonance when looking at her works, offering an extraordinary sense of being touched in our ordinary life. In the meantime, she hopes to bridge the relationship between people and nature through this inner resonance created by her works.
